Illuminations was written in accordance to the act of balance. Inspired by The Chaos Theory, it was written to represent the balance between Structure & Chaos, Sound & Silence, Freedom & Restriction. The score consists of a set of rules, a written piano score and 4 sheets of graphic notation each divided into 6 distinct blocks. Each block contains different drawings/lines/characters as well as specific dynamic markings. Performers are free to interpret what they see within each block and shift to the next block when cued. The main aspect I control in this piece is the linearity of time as I decide when performers change from one block to the next.
